This section covers buildings and contents against theft that is by means of force.

Underwriting Guidelines

  • A list of all items must be obtained with information on value and any identification on them such as make and serial number where available.
  • Proposer must provide information on location, nature of business and the type of building he is in.  Most underwriters will not accept risks located near slum areas or where the building  is constructed of material that easily catches fire.
  • Proposal from must be filled and signed.
  • All material facts that affect the risk must be disclosed.  A material fact is a fact which would influence the judgment of a reasonable underwriter in deciding whether to accept the risk or not, and on what terms, e.g. claim history.

Claim conditions

  • To notify APA Insurance immediately in case of a loss
  • To report the occurrence to police
  • To take reasonable precautions to avoid loss
  • If fraud is suspected, all benefits under the policy are forfeited
  • Claims are subject to contribution, average and subrogation.

Exclusions

  • Loss by fire during or after theft
  • Theft of money and other securities
  • Collusion with employees
  • Theft that is not forceful e.g. use of a key, shoplifting or use of a trick.
