Marine Insurance

This policy is similar to the G.I.T. policy the only difference being that it also extends to sea and air transit.  The policy is also known as a “warehouse to warehouse” policy.  This means that the insurance is in force from the time the goods leave the warehouse or place of storage named in the policy for the commencement of the transit and continues during the ordinary course of transit and terminates either:

 

a.     On delivery top the consignees or other final warehouse at the destination named in the policy

b.     On the expiry of sixty days after completion of discharge of the goods from the vessel at the final part of discharge.

 

Policy excess claims procedure and policy rating are similar to G.I.T. insurance.  Marine insurance also extends to cover war, riots and civil commotion.  General exclusions are damage arising from: rust, oxidation, discoloration, scratching, denting etc.
